Sauna & Steam Room

Uptown Fitness offers a sauna and steam room for our members to relax after exercise. They are located in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms. Use of these amenities is included in your membership and free to utilize during all hours of operation. However, please be aware that there are rules and regulations that members must abide by in order to gain entry into the sauna and steam room. Showers are required before entry and clothing or a towel must be worn at all times. No oils or other moisturizing products are allowed in the rooms.

Did you know that the sauna and steam room provide actual health benefits for users? The heat produced in a sauna/steam room stimulates muscles, reduces stress hormones, lower blood pressure, and improves cardiovascular health. The heat from the rooms initiate detoxification through perspiration and both these types of hot baths promote healthy metabolism.

So which one should you use? While steam baths use moist heat, saunas offer dry heat sessions. Steam rooms are kept around 100 to 114 degrees while saunas are much hotter, up to 212 degrees. Some may find it more difficult to breathe in the dry heat of a sauna, so people with respiratory problems like sinus congestion and asthma may prefer the moist steam room. Moist heat also benefits people with joint pain or other body pains.

It is important to consult with your doctor before using these rooms. If you are experiencing too much heat, please leave the rooms or seek medical attention.
